Gazebo (Event Details)

There are several things to know for our big day, including: NO HARD LIQUOR ON THE PREMISES (including the parking lot).  If there are any concerns, please reach out and we can reassure you that our mead, beer, and wine offerings will be high proof and plenty.  Water and non-alcoholic beverages will be available as well.

You may also wish to know about the Schedule and Venue, which are listed below on this page, as well as Why the Gazebo? and What should I wear?

Why the Gazebo?

A  succinct description of the meme that connects gazebos to Dungeons and Dragons can be read on Wikipedia:  Eric and the Dread Gazebo. Sometime later, Munchkin (a card style party game) produced this card referencing the story:

Text on card: Level 8, Gazebo, No one can help you. You must face the Gazebo alone. Bad stuff: Lose 3 levels, 2 Treasures.

Since Gazebos are often associated with weddings and romance, and since we met during a tabletop role playing game similar to Dungeons and Dragons (and are often playing in one campaign or another), we decided to take this meme a step further and….

Face the Gazebo Together

What should I wear?

While you are allowed to wear what you wish, we encourage dressing to match the theme.  You could be a(n):

Rogue

Barbarian

Wizard

Bard

Merchant

Baker

Candlestick maker

Pirate (all varieties, Capt, crew, wench)

Maid

Blacksmith

nondescript peasant

Fairy-kin

Knight (no horses, please)

Count or other Nobility

Anything you feel would fit in with above!

Anything you would wear to a Renaissance Faire!

The only caveat is that it will be August, so keep heat in mind and perhaps plan layers. The Feast will be in an airconditioned barn. It is very fitting to be a sweaty mess, with or without pomp.

And while being a human is likely the easiest option, with a little bit of makeup you could be a(n):

Elf

Dwarf

Dragon

Lizardfolk

Halfing

Fairy

Mermaid (though we won’t have any water for you)

We (Lizzy and Nick) will be dressing up based on characters we played when we first met, with added embellishments related to Dragons and the color scheme of Black, Red, and Silver (a tricolor wedding).  The Wedding Party will be dressed up as well as a variety of classes and colors, and we encourage you to have as much fun with it as we are!

WEAPONS

Since this is a public park, we’ve been asked to not use real weapons. That said foam weapons can look very impressive, and are also dangerous in the right and left hands (and other appendages).  Here’s some sites that might be of interest:

If you want to bring a weapon of questionable safety, reach out and ask! We hope that peacebound weapons will be fine, but we have yet to ask (as of 5/23/24 - will update the page once we know for sure).

GAMES

The afternoon will be filled with yard games, themed for medieval times and for Dungeons and Dragons.  Appropriate footwear is recommended for grassy areas.  Also please respect the property of Cobblestone Farm. While it might be in keeping with the theme, we do not want to be kicked out!

We will update this page as we develop the games, but currently we are planning for the following outdoor games (from 3-5pm):

Axe throwing (plastic axes)

Gather Information (social game of intrigue)

Lock picking

Survival/Monster Tracking

Friendly sparring with foam weapons
